Disabled Members Council
The Council wants as many disabled members as possible to register as such so that they can work effectively for disabled members. This will allow them to work more effectively on policies and campaigns for disabled members. Anyone who is concerned about doing this may be assured that they can register in total confidence at: membership@nuj.org.uk
Further information is available from the Chair, Stephen Brookes MBE, at stbmbe@aol.com or from Lena Calvert at lenac@nuj.org.uk
If you are disabled, please register or email for further information. If you know any member to whom this may be relevant, please forward this to them.

Thanks to all who attended.
The branch will now get Branch Maintenance fees from HQ.
Euan Williamson is now Treasurer. Thanks to Alan Richardson for his work in this post for the past several years.
Alan Grant remains as Chair & I, as Secretary.
Euan will represent us at ADM in Scarborough in April.
The branch has backed Euan's amendment to motion 80 at ADM.
Original Motion 80:
This ADM notes that the New Media Industrial Council is not functioning properly in the interests of the union. Staff members in the sector have to leave broadcasting, newspapers or other sectors to join and thus divide chapels. Freelance members often work in different sectors at the same time and relatively few work exclusively in the new media so the present Rule 13 (d) prevents them from becoming active in that sector.
Recognising that the 2005 ADM is not a rule change conference, ADM instructs the NEC as a matter of urgency to consult branches and chapels to review the way in which the New Media Industrial Council functions and to come up with proposals for the next rule change ADM.
Among other ideas, such proposals should enable freelances who are considerably, although not necessarily exclusively, involved in new media to participate in the industrial council¹s work and be able to stand for election to it.
Motion 80 Amendment:
Delete after New Media Industrial Council (line 1) to end of paragraph. Insert “has yet to hold its first meeting”.
Second para delete from chapels (line 3) to end of para and insert “about how the NMIC might work most effectively noting that the launch of this new council may well mean that there are chapels that will contain members from more than one sector for the first time.”
Delete last para.
I cannot go to ADM, as intended, due to a previously arranged holiday.
Jim Innes and I shall try to find ways of assisting the Recruitment campaign with some campaigning work in Dundee & Angus. Your ideas and help with this will be welcomed.
